Right after the proposal

Right after the proposal

As told by Kenny

I had a plan, it was awesome. I'd found a great place in Hoboken for New Years Eve.  The plan was to ring in 2012, have a few drinks, and walk along the Hudson River on the way back to PATH. While walking we would ask each other what our New Year's Resolutions were. When she would ask me what my Resolution was, I'd go down on one knee and say, "My resolution is to start calling you fiancee, will you marry me?"

It didn't go to plan.

It was 11:15 PM on December 31, 2011 and we had yet to leave our apartment in Newark.  At that point I knew our chances of reaching Hoboken by midnight were slim to none. Grace came downstairs, and she was flustered.  She knows I don't like being late to things and was struggling to put on her shoes.  At that point I knew my best laid plans need to be scuttled. I had two choices before me, I could proceed anyways, and have our New Years become a little awkward or... I could just propose.

While she was still fumbling to put on her shoes, I went down on one knee and asked her to be my wife. She said "yes," obviously. Tears began to stream down her face and I was relieved that they were tears of joy.

We decided to stay in, we broke out a special bottle of Champagne, turned on the tv, and called our families to inform them of our good news.

It didn't go to plan, but it was perfect.
