How They Met
Kenny and Grace met on July 11, 2008 at Soft Notes, a bar in Oakland that lost its license a few months later. On that night, it was the site of the East Bay "DYL," a bi-weekly happy hour that a group of Yelpers (users of Yelp.com) hosted. Grace arrived late, greeted her friends, and met Kenny, who was then a relatively new Yelper.
After a while, Kenny sat next to Grace at the bar. She was waiting for her drink (a lemon drop); he was trying to get away from a racist conversation. Suddenly, it was midnight and they realized that they were both hungry. The three options for late night food were: Korean Fried Chicken, questionable Chinese food, and Chicken and Waffles. Because Chicken and Waffles was the closest, best option, they went there and continued their conversation.
During their talks, Kenny learned that Grace was a new events manager and was looking for silent auction items, so he offered to donate a set of tools. That's how he got her card.
They went out the next week, and the rest is history.
